UKKA Level One Instructor
My dad introduced me to training/physical culture and the martial arts
before I hit my teens (Eugene Sandow; Masutatsu Oyama [Kyokushinkai
Karate] and Bruce Lee). It was my love of the martial arts and combat
sports that got me into boxing and I have coached amateur boxers at
all levels, including club, divisional, national and international.
I have coached boxing in the United States, England and Wales and presently
coach at Long Lane Amateur Boxing Club in Liverpool, where I have assisted
in the development of a number of national champions
In addition to boxing, my Sports Science degree has enabled me to work
successfully with performers from a number of sports including American
football, basketball, tennis and MMA. My connections with boxing put
me in touch with the UKKA’s estimable Mr. Mike Lawson (nice story
on this elsewhere on the site) and my interest in kettlebells hit a
new level of enthusiasm. They are such a versatile tool that they have
become a staple of our training and are very popular amongst our performers
who are experiencing new levels of power and fitness.
My dedication to personal and professional development has resulted
in me being a founder-member of the Federation of Amateur Boxing Coaches
(a coach education forum by and for coaches), who’s members recently
had the good fortune to benefit from the knowledge, humour, wisdom and
experience of warriors Pike, Beauchamp and Lawson.
